Welcome to the Beginner's Basics guide to Research!

This guide is intended to help you through the research process and to broaden your understanding of the research process.  Remember, your instructor has the final say on what you need to include in your research project and what should be included.

Click on the tabs above to find out some library resources to help you in your researching process.

Off-Campus Access

As a UNI student, you can access the library catalog, databases, and electronic books off campus.  You will be prompted for your CatID once you go into these areas from the library homepage.

Librarian Tip

In most cases, using the ADVANCED SEARCH option whether you are in Google, library catalog, or specific databases is a good thing to do.

Using the advanced option allows you more options to fit the needs of your research whether it be to limit by year, material type (book, DVD, CD, etc.), author, title, etc.
