Overview of Library Services

Library services for distance learners include reference help, access to licensed library resources, and some extra document delivery services.

Rod Library staff will send in-house books and will borrow books through interlibrary loan not owned by the Library.

Staff will scan and email in-house articles and will attempt to interlibrary loan articles not owned by Rod Library.

All enrolled students have remote access into Rod Library's licensed resources many of which contain some full text information (e.g., full text of articles, full text statistical information, or photographs).

Distance learners can receive help with getting started in their research. Students may schedule a library consultation on specific research topics.

To qualify for the extra document delivery services:

  • you have to be currently enrolled and taking at least one class through the Division of Continuing Education and Special Programs and
  • live greater than 20 miles from campus.
Guided Independent Study (GIS) students also receive these services. UNI has several international programs. Rod Library provides a variety of services to international students.

Use this form to send us your research questions. Do you need help in getting started with your research? Are you having problems locating a journal article or a book? Are you having problems accessing our resources?

    Extra Document Delivery Services

Rod Library provides extra document delivery services to UNI distance learners. Library staff can check out and send books to students. Students can request books not owned by Rod Library using interlibrary loan. Please remember that you will have a book via interlibrary loan for a shorter amount of time than an on-campus student because the book is sent to four addresses before it gets back to the lending library.

In addition, Rod Library can attempt to obtain articles requested by a distance learner. If Rod Library owns the article, staff will scan and email the article. If Rod Library does not own the article, staff will attempt to get the article from another library. Rod Library complies with U.S. copyright law when attempting to obtain both in-house and articles through interlibrary loan.

Click here to submit your article and book requests via ILLiad. ILLiad is our document delivery system. After you log in using your University CatID, you will be able to submit, view, and track your requests more efficiently.

See the sections/tabs on Books and Articles for additional information.
