PHIL 2210 - Ancient Philosophy - Holland

Directions for locating print and online translations of Aristotle, Plato, and Pythagoras from the Rod Library and HathiTrust,

Rod Library provides access to roughly a dozen print and electronic copies of Aristotle’s Nichomachean and Eudemian Ethics.

                 

More than half of these exist in print and are found on the third floor at locations such as:

  • UNI Stacks B37 2011

  • UNI Stacks B407 .S6 1984   

  • UNI Stacks B430 .E86 

     

OneSearch can be used to locate these as follows:

  1. Go to the Rod Library website http://www.library.uni.edu.

  2. Click on the Advanced Search option under the “Search Everything …” search box (middle of the website).

  3. Click on the Books/Media option.

  4. Set the first dropdown menu to Author/Creator and type in Aristotle in the search blank to the right.

  5. In the second search blank set the search option to Title and type in ethics OR works.

 

HathiTrust  https://www.hathitrust.org/,  (a multi-library digitization project far superior to Google Books, though far smaller than Google Books), will provide online translations of Aristotle's works that were published prior to 1923.

               

To locate works by Aristotle on Friendship or Justice:   

  1. click on Advanced Search

  2. type Aristotle in the first blank and set the search to Author 

  3. type in Friendship (or Justice) in the second blank 

  4. also be sure to set the search to Full View only (an option farther down on the left-hand side)
