Thesis & Dissertation Submission Process

Details for submitting a thesis / dissertation and meeting all Grad College submission requirements

Optional Printing and Binding of Personal Copies

If a student wishes to obtain hard copies of their approval (signature) pages, they may print on the approved thesis paper (below) and bring the copies to their defense for committee members to sign. Students should submit the print copies to the Graduate College office (Lang Hall 110) after the committee has signed for the Graduate Dean's signature. The Dean's signature will be applied once final approval is granted.

The student can opt to pick up the copies in person or have them mailed to a permanent mailing address of the student's choosing.

This is completely optional.

BIOLOGY STUDENTS: Please consult your department.

Approved Thesis Paper

Note: It is recommended that students submit a copy of their formatted signature pages to the Thesis Reviewer prior to printing. This will help ensure that the formatting is correct.

The paper must be 24 pound white bond paper, 8.5 x 11 inches, acid free, either 25% or 100% cotton paper. Any brand of paper is acceptable if it meets all of these specifications. This should be printed on one side of the paper only.

The University of Northern Iowa has a contract with Copyworks in Cedar Falls. Students will be charged a discounted price if they obtain a work order from the Office of University Relations, 125 E Bartlett (or email, prior to going to Copyworks. Contact Copyworks at 319-266-2306 or Copyworks has Capitol Bond brand paper that meets the required paper specifications.

Binding of Personal Copies

Note: The Graduate College does not facilitate the binding of personal copies. The student should wait until final approval is granted and use the finalized PDF version they are sent.

The Graduate College does not bind student copies of the thesis. There is a recommended bindery that students may use or they may find an alternative if they choose. The recommended bindery is Thesis on Demand. Questions about binding should be directed to the bindery of your choosing.
