Environmental Chemistry in the News

Search the following databases for news articles.

Search tips:

  • Use a specific toxin name.
  • Consider using non-technical names for toxins because news articles are more likely to use terms the general public can understand. For example, rather than searching petroleum hydrocarbons, search oil spill.
  • Consider adding a specific geographic location or any of these terms: toxicity, pollution, biodegradation, remediation, or bioremediation.

CAS Numbers

CAS logo

The American Chemical Society's Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) has assigned a unique number to more than 133 million chemical substances. Searching in other databases using the CAS number in quotation marks (ex. "50-81-7" for ascorbic acid) ensures you are getting information about the correct substance, regardless of name, language, or synonyms.
