Grantwriting

A guide for students

Search for Grantmakers (funding agencies)

Foundation Directory Online Professional: primary search tool for finding funding agencies & grants. Use through Rod Library's link because this is a paid resource. For an overview of basic features, see the videos below. For all videos, see Foundation Directory Online's YouTube channel.

Search tips:

  • Once you search, view Grantmakers (funding agencies) or Grants (successful applications).
  • Consider geography. Not all grantmakers (funders) will fund projects in all geographic areas.
    • To find limitations once you are viewing a Grantmaker Profile, select Menu > Applications/RFPS.
    • Look for these icons, which indicate the most available information:

eGrant Reporter and GlassPockets

  • Notes about access: Foundation Directory is available to current UNI faculty, staff, and students both on- and off-campus (CatID required off-campus). For alumni and community members, access is available in Rod Library only. Visitors should stop by the Library Services Desk on the library's main floor near the main (east) entrance to request a guest computer pass. Some Iowa public libraries have Foundation Directory access via agreement with the State Library of Iowa (all have access at no cost but must sign up).
