Title	Protecting Patron Privacy: Developing Library Privacy Policy and Procedures
Purposes (reasons/motivation)	Requested by EMT
Goals (results/directions)	Draft a patron privacy policy to be posted on the public website. Assess the current state of procedures and practices in relation to patron data lifecycle, make recommendations for improvements, and propose a process for continual review (i.e. ongoing privacy audit). Involvement of key faculty and staff for information gathering and feedback is important. Create internal procedures for decision-making regarding internal-use patron data that include attention to the entire patron data lifecycle. Create internal procedures for decision-making regarding access to patron data by special request (e.g. faculty research, request from an academic affairs unit, etc.) As appropriate, coordinate discussions and/or professional development to advance the library’s understanding of patron privacy issues.
