Early & Emergent Readers

Guide to easy readers, early chapter books, and other resources for emergent and early readers. Created by Kyrie Borsay, Graduate Student Assistant to the Youth Collection.

What is a Self-Extending Reader

The self-extending reader should be reading very fluently and is usually between the ages of eight and nine years old. The purpose behind reading has now become pleasure driven and a high comprehension level is now neccesary to gather information from reading. Parents ask questions about the texts your child is reading to reaffirm their comprehension.
