LGBTQ+ Literature in the UNI Youth Collection

An overview to LGBTQ+ Literature for children and young adults. Includes reference materials and titles of historical interest.

Introduction

SPOILER ALERT

For a long time, seeking out LGBTQ+ characters in fiction meant accepting that they were likely to die--whether from violence, suicide, or AIDS-related illnesses--or at least have a brush with death. As you're exploring LGBTQ+ books and building a collection for your students, make sure you're balancing tragic stories with more optimistic, everyday stories.

Some of these are books I'd recommend, and some aren't. This page was assembled mostly for research and historical interest.
