Google search techniques for identifying high quality free information sources.

Use some of the following Google searches to find high quality free information listed on university library websites:
  

   

Google search for the phrase "web resources" on "your topic" limited to library guides from US university websites.

 

Google search for the phrase "web sources" on "your topic" limited to library guides from US university websites.

 

Google search for the phrase "internet resources" on "your topic" limited to library guides from US university websites.

 

Google search for the phrase "internet sources" on "your topic" limited to library guides from US university websites.

 

Google search for the phrase "open access" on "your topic" limited to library guides from US university websites.

 

Google search for the phrase "freely available" on "your topic" limited to library guides from US university websites.

 

Google search for the word "free" in the title and "your topic" in the body of library guides from US university websites.

 

 

 

How these searches work:   

"libguides"   limits results to research guides created by librarians

"web sources"       putting two or more words in "quotes" ensures Google will look for that phrase

intitle:free   searches for the indicated word "free" in the titles of web pages

 site:edu    limits your search to U.S. university websites

a search for "libguides" without  site:edu will include results from international universities and public libraries
