Search engine alternatives. Finding more information with more search options.

Focused Google search techniques for locating search engine alternatives:

Google search: "libguides" "search engine" "alternative" sited:edu - looks for search engine alternatives limited to US college library websites.

The Google search: "libguides" "search engine" "alternative" --- looks for library websites that feature the phrase "search engine" and the word "alternative"

How these searches work:

"libguides"   limits results to research guides created by librarians

"alternative"     putting a word in "quotes" ensures Google will look for that word

"search engine"       putting two or more words in "quotes" ensures Google will look for that phrase

consider an additional search that looks for the plural "search engines"  instead

site:edu    limits your search to U.S. university websites

a search for "libguides" without  site:edu will include results from international universities and public libraries
