Plan for Success -- Required (20 Points)

Read comments from previous Beyond Google students and, write a brief reflection. This is a REQUIRED activity, and is due at the end of Week 1.

You can earn up to 20 points:    

  • Read through the advice from previous Beyond Google students.
  • Write a brief  "My Plan for Succeeding in Beyond Google" based on this advice, and what you see in the Syllabus.

Quizzes -- Required (50 points)

Quizzes are taken outside of class on the eLearning site. You can earn up to 50 points per week through your performance on a ten question quiz.  You will have ten minutes to complete the quiz.  Each week, you can attempt the quiz up to five times.  Your highest score will get recorded in the grade book. 

You will be REQUIRED to take a quiz each week. The quizzes are cumulative.  For example, Week 6 quiz covers content from weeks 1-6.  The types of quiz questions include, but aren’t limited to: multiple choice, short answer, fill in the blank, and matching.

You MUST score 30 or higher on the quiz for Week 7.

You will be quizzed on material covered in the What You Must Know units found on the Beyond Google LibGuide.

Essay Exercises (35 - 70 points)

Answer question sets as you read essays or watch videos on issues in information.

Participation (20 or more points)

You are expected to be prepared every day for class by studying the What You Must Know units. Participation points are an incentive for you to be prepared for class and to play an active role in our learning community (class).

You can earn Participation points as follow:

  • Show up on time for class and participate actively throughout class (20 pts)
    • 10 points if not present for the entire class
  • Notify me about problems, errors, and typos. (5 - 10 pts)
    • Points to first responders who notice problems with the website (links, etc.).
  • In-Class Activities. (Points will vary.)
    • Additional points can be earned in class for new and exceptional ideas, puzzles, contests, exercises, among others.

Practice (25 points)

Questions, exercises, and mysteries to be solved that will allow you to practice your What You Must Know skills in preparation for the quizzes.

Each practice set is worth 25 points.  You can complete up to two 25 sets each week for a total of 50 points possible each week for Practice Problems.

Read, Reflect, Cite (15 points)

Write brief summaries and reflections on a wide variety of videos, articles, and book chapters. See the class LibGuide for reading options and for links to the OWL (Purdue Online Writing Lab) for examples of APA formatting and good writing styles.

You can earn up to 15 points per article:

  • View videos or read short articles, write a brief summary (5 pts)
  • Add your reaction to the article or video (5 pts)
  • Finish with an APA citation for the video or article (5 pts)
