1. Do I have to use my UNI email address to register for an account? 

Yes.

2. What if I already subscribe to the NYTimes with my UNI email address? 

  • If you have an unpaid NYTimes account:
  1. Do not click "Create Account" on the welcome page; Click "Already have an account? Log in here."  
  2. Log in with their existing NYT username / password.  This will link your existing username / password to the UNI academic pass.
  • If you have a paid subscription for the NYTimes: 
  1. You will need to cancel your account before it can be associated with the UNI academic pass. 
  2. Cancel through customer care: customercare@nytimes.com / 800-591-9233 / Chat
  3. Once canceled, your username can then be associated with the UNI academic pass. 

3. Why use the NYTimes Group Pass to read The New York Times Online? 

The pass through Rod Library gives unlimited access to all content on the site.  Visitors without a pass may only read up to 2-10 articles a month.  

4. Can I use smartphone or tablet apps to read the NYTimes?

Yes, after you have created an account, download the free apps via the app store or NYTimes mobile.

5.  Are there any restrictions on usage? 

Yes, for content from 1923-2022 in the Archives, all users are limited to 5 article downloads per day per user.

6. Can I read the NYTimes in languages other than English? ​

Yes, you can read the NYTimes in Mandarin or Spanish.

7. Can I access the NYTimes off-campus?

Yes, as long as you have activated your NYTimes.com pass through this guide.  

8. Why am I asked to log in on some occasions and not others? 

This may happen if you have cleared your browser history or cache.  You can log back in using your pass.
