Artists' Residential Community: Locating Sources

This guide will assist you in finding various sources of information to do research for your Artists' Residential Community project. You should be adding to the toolkit you've honed in previous interior design courses.

Google Advanced Searching

Sometimes, scholarly journals and books are the best sources for a particular question. Sometimes, however, you need more current information, information geared toward a different audience, or, frankly, something you can access without hitting paywalls or subscription fees.

While a general Google (or open-web) search might suffice, some advanced search tricks can help you make your search even more effective.

Workshop Resources (Fall 2024)

For today's workshop you will work with your group to locate resources that help you answer a short list of questions. These resource sheets will be available to your whole class, so you can refer back to them as you work on your Artist's Residential Community Projects.

Use this guide as a jumping off point for finding resources, but you are not limited to these resources.

Please edit in your group’s section only.

Tips:

  • Try advanced Google searching tips.

  • Can’t find an exact answer?

    • Share other relevant information you come across that is interesting or surprising.

    • Ask for help from your librarian!

  • Cite your sources (just a URL is fine for today)!

  • Be ready to share with the class what you learned, how you feel, and what you want to do next.

Resources (to consider)

Government Websites/Agencies

Organizations/Agencies

Local Newspapers

Interior Design Organizations

Local Resources

Trade Magazines (open web)

Rod Library subscribes to many of these. However, because we're practicing open web searching in this class, these are the public links. If you hit a paywall, we can always look for the article in our databases.
