SC&UA Instruction Assessment Form

Background Knowldge Questions
Recommendations

Here is some preliminary feedback (10/20/20):

1) I think you might want to think about minimizing # of required fields if you want/need to increase response rates.

2) It might have pros and cons, but you'd better place qualitative feedback toward the end of the survey.

3) Who will be survey participants? Undergraduate or graduate students? If you have a target group of participants in mind, you might want to think about customizing languages.

4) I think your survey questions are aligned more with experimental research designs (before and after). If you want to use a survey as a tool, you'd better use one combined question from two separate questions (before and after) especially if it is associated with one-shot instructions. Or you'd better use two questions with separate surveys with a time interval before class (before a semester) and after class (after a semester).

5) If you want to distribute it today, I would recommend using it as a pilot study (or usability study) to check if your survey is easy to understand or easy to use.

Questions/Goals

Assessing primary source literacy instruction

"As you know, I just created a student evaluation form (10/20/20), but we want to think more deeply and intentionally about what and how we are evaluating this work."

Brainstorming document

Background Knowledge Questions
  • Are you planning to publish it? IRB Approval?
  • Where are you currently at? Have you ever done any similar study before? What did you learn?
  • Have you done some literature reviews (& identify exemplary studies)?
Recommendations
  • In general, I prefer to do some literature review first but in order to speed up the process, we can benchmark your survey design against ready-to-use survey templates on the Project Outcome.
