Web Traffic Analysis

Title Web Traffic Analysis
Start/End Dates Fall 2020
Motivation A link to "Rod Library" (https://guides.lib.uni.edu/blackboard/) has been added to all BlackBoard (BB) course pages since April 18, 2020.
Questions/Goals Has web traffic to our library website been increased since then?
Methods

Google Analytics (Google Studio)

Modified from existing institutional dashboards

Results

1) A landing page: https://library.uni.edu/ (SH-127505)

  • UNI UX Report Dashboard: A link to data from Google Studio
  • Source/Media: Page #2 (See a further breakdown of "referrals" to check if they are BB)

2) A landing page: https://guides.lib.uni.edu/blackboard (SH-132743)

  • It is currently unavailable as of 11/2/20 due to no accessible to libguides sites. Susan B. will check it with Angie C.
  • A link to data from Google Studio
    • Narrow the results down to any subdomain of the Library.
    • In the top right of the Top Pages Expanded View, there is a filter called Pages. Select Contains and enter a partial url, like guides.lib.uni.edu or guides.lib.uni.edu/blackboard, it will filter the results by that URL.
    • See Source/Medium report (> referral) from page two of the report from the top left corner
Findings

It is no longer a valid project, given that two datasets between before and after COVID-19 are not comparable and we will have our new library website according to university-wide website changes. We can use the information that we found for similar web traffic analysis projects in the future.
